OCZ Vertex 3 240GB Engineering Sample Reviewed!

The ink is barely dry on the SandForce press release announcing their new controllers and already, Legit Reviews has published a review of the new OCZ Vertex 3 that will use the SF-2281 processor. While they only have a preliminary sample, the numbers sound very promising. According to their tests, maximum throughput was tested at 555.38MB/s, which nearly saturates the capabilities of the SATA 6Gb/s interface and exceeds the speed ratings that were just this morning published by SandForce. Additionally, this drive performs at approximately double the speeds of the Vertex 2. The blazing performance, however, is evidently dependent on having a machine with both a SATA 6 Gb/s bus and a Sandy Bridge processor. So, until you upgrade your processor, the current generation of SSDs is still a good bet for storage upgrades. Now let’s see if that MacBook Pro announcement says anything about SATA 6Gb/s, because I’m pretty confident that they’ll be using the Sandy Bridge processors…
